Police have laid charges after taking two people into custody during the five hour standoff on Valour Road Thursday evening.

Jermaine Hinds age 23, and James Bastians age 27, have been charged with assault, drug, and weapons related offences.

The charges came after police executed a search warrant Friday morning at the house where the standoff had taken place. They found a .40 calibre pistol, $6000 cash, and nearly 50 g of crack cocaine along with other drugs.

Thursday's standoff began when the Winnipeg police tactical support unit moved in to search for suspects in the beating of a 19-year-old man.

It happened in the 700 block of Valour Road just before 5:00 p.m. Police say a 19-year-old man was beaten at a house in the area, but was able to escape and call for help.

Police arrested one suspect when they arrived at the scene, but called in the tactical support unit when they were told the other suspects might be armed.

A few hours later police arrested a second suspect who was returning to the house.

They finally broke into the house at around 11:00 p.m., but found no one inside.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

The victim was treated and released.
