A small plane landed in the middle of a Manitoba highway Friday afternoon.

A Northway Aviations plane came down on Highway 8 near St. Andrews at around 2:00 p.m.

RCMP say the plane had just taken off from St. Andrews Airport.

Four people were on board, including the pilot, two women, and an infant. They were on their way to the Bloodvein First Nation.

Just after takeoff, the plane experienced engine problems and the pilot was forced to land.

Witnesses on the ground say they noticed the plane was flying very low. It circled and then landed on the highway.

"I had to pull my truck into the ditch to avoid him and we passed about five feet apart from each other," Kerry Seabrook told CTV News. "I could hear the wheels touch down beside my truck as he landed."

Friday's close call wasn't Seabrook's first.

He was one of the young men on the runway when the Gimli Glider touched down in Gimli 25 years ago.

No one was injured in Friday's incident.  The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
