Winnipeg police have arrested two men in connection with a counterfeit driver's license making operation.

The commercial crime unit got a tip from Manitoba Public Insurance, which had in turn got a tip from a local hotel chain in Transcona last week.  An ultraviolet ID scanner caught it, and the fake license was seized.

Two counterfeit licenses were seized at the hotel. The tip led officers to investigate an 18-year-old and 19-year-old man.

Police believe the men were selling the fake IDs to their friends and others for between $50 and $100 each.

About 50 of the licenses have been seized, but police say some are still being used.  Sources tell CTV News a teen tried to use one just a few days ago to get into a local casino.

Police say the arrests are proof that MPI's new licenses are more secure.
