CTV News has learned one of the founders of the Indian Posse street gang escaped from a Saskatchewan jail Sunday night. He is considered dangerous and possibly armed.

Daniel Richard Wolfe, 32, has an extensive history of violence.  In 2007 he was charged with double murder in Fort Qu'Appelle Saskatchewan.

There is no word on whether or not he is heading to Winnipeg, but officers here have been told to take precautions if they encounter the man.

Wolfe is one of five men who escaped from the Regina Provincial Correction Centre shortly before midnight Sunday.

The other four inmates have been identified as:

  • Ryan John Agecoutay, 25
  • Preston Clarence Buffalocalf, 22
  • Cody Dillon Keenatch, 19
  • James Joseph Pewean, 25

The Regina correction centre is under lockdown but no injuries were reported in the escape.

Police released photos of the escaped men but said the prisoners may have made attempts to disguise their appearance.

Jail just upgraded

The jail had just undergone renovations to replace the section built in 1913.

Julien Houlet, the centre's director told The Canadian Press in early August that the $51.5 million in improvements for the facility will help house inmates more humanely.

The old 1913 building has been described as like Alcatraz, with crumbling concrete, a sagging foundation, and problems with mould and cockroaches.

The RCMP has not yet released any details on why the men were in jail.

Anyone with information on the escaped inmates is asked to call Winnipeg Crime Stoppers at 786-TIPS or 1-800-222-8477. To submit a tip online visit winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
