Students in the Winnipeg School Division won't be seeing hand sanitizer dispensers when they return to the classroom next week.
The school division has banned the dispensers at all of its 77 schools.
The division says alcohol-based hand-washing stations are flammable and toxic.
The division worries kids could get sick if the products are ingested or they can accidently burn themselves.
However the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's Medical Officer of Health says the dispensers are an effective way to stop the spread of infections.
"I have never heard or seen any research to suggest that it is toxic," said Dr. Margaret Fast.
The school division may be removing the stations from the hallways, but it doesn't mean students can't bring their own hand sanitizing solutions to school for personal use.
