A city councillor says it should be easier for Winnipeggers to use the internet at city facilities.

Councillor Dan vandal wants to make wireless internet (WiFi) free at libraries and the Pan Am Pool.

The city launched its WiFi program just over a year ago.

But Vandal says it costs users between three and five dollars an hour to use it.

"People are not taking us up on it because they have to pay for it," he told CTV News.

"They can go to the Fyxx or another facility downtown and get it for free so why would they come to the library? I think whatever the cost; it's a cost that can be absorbed by the city of Winnipeg."

Vandal plans to bring the motion forward during Wednesday's City Council meeting.
