If you're looking for a safe ride home after your New Years party, Winnipeg Transit has an option for you.

Transit will be offering free rides on New Years Eve and into New Years Day. The freebees start at 7:00 pm on December 31, and run until the buses end service that night. You'll need to consult the schedule for buses headed to your area, but the last Transit buses out of downtown Winnipeg leave at 1:38 am New Years Day.

The tab for the free ride service will picked up by the same people who many party-goers will be supporting throughout the evening. "Winnipeg Transit is looking forward to providing Winnipeggers with this very special New Years Eve service courtesy of Molson," said Dave Wardrop, Director of Winnipeg Transit. "We estimate approximately 10,000 Winnipeggers will be taking advantage of the free transit service on New Years Eve."

Bryan Cox, Director of Government and Public Affairs for Molson says his company is proud to play our part to help people make the responsible choice to get home safely.

Of course the Winnipeg Police Service likes the idea too because starting 2009 with an impaired driving charge is something no-one wants.

The free rides apply to all regular and handi-transit service.
