A local Winnipeg radio legend has lost his battle with cancer.

Ron Able was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just last month.

For the past 12 years, Able co-hosted the morning show for Winnipeg country music station QX104.

The 57-year-olds career in broadcasting took him all across the country.

Officials at QX104 say at the end, Ron was surrounded by family and friends, and was grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes he received over the past several weeks.

Regular programming at the station has been suspended on Friday as a tribute to Ron.

A public celebration of Ron's life will be held on a later date, but when that service will be has not been determined yet.
