Police have arrested a chronic car thief after he removed his electronic monitoring device for the third time in less than a year.

On July, 23, 2008, a 16-year-old youth was issued a probation order of which one of the conditions was to wear an electronic monitoring device.

On August, 18, 2008, the youth removed the bracelet and was eventually found and arrested by members of the Stolen Auto Unit two days later on August 20, 2008.

The youth was again placed on probation on October 20, 2008, with the condition that he participates in the Electronic Monitoring Program.

Approximately five days later, the youth again removed his bracelet and fled. He was arrested on October 28, 2008.

On January 19, 2009, the youth was released with the condition that he wears an electronic monitoring device. For the third time, the youth removed his bracelet and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Due to the ongoing efforts of the Stolen Auto Unit, the 16-year-old Level-4 Offender was located and arrested on Thursday, February 26, 2009 in the area of the 300 block of Portage Avenue.

He has been charged with the following:

- Mischief Under $5,000.00

- Warrant to Apprehend x 3

He has been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
