Flying the friendly skies can be a frustrating experience especially when the self check in machine is not co-operating.
Check-in is just the beginning. After that, passengers still need to get through security. And that too can be quite the challenge.
"Usually a passenger takes 30 to 40 seconds to be screened, when there's nothing wrong," says Mathieu Larocque from the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
But if you are carrying things you should not then you can expect a longer chat with security.
"It can even take five minutes," says Larocque.
Mathieu Larocque says this causes a domino like effect throughout the rest of the line slowing everyone down.
This effect is magnified during peak travel seasons like spring break.
"We get about a 25 percent increase in passenger traffic," says Christine Alongi from the Winnipeg Airports Authority.
That is 25 percent more people who can slow up the line if they forget the rules.
So to jog people's memory new signs have been placed at the security checkpoint.
"There are still threats out there," says Larocque who reminds us the hassle is all about our safety.
Before you head off to the airport here are some tips for your carry-on luggage.
Containers of liquids, aerosols or gels need to be 100 millilitres or less.
All containers must fit in one clear, closed, re-sealable plastic bag no more than one litre in capacity.
Firearms, knives and scissors are not permitted as well.
