Damage is estimated at $2 million after a fire at the Summerland Apartments Monday afternoon. One woman is in hospital recovering from smoke inhalation.

Emergency crews evacuated the two tower high-rise complex, which carters to senior tenants, after a fire started around 4:30 p.m.

Investigators believe a resident was cooking with oil that boiled over starting a fire that spread and caused smoke to fill multiple floors.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames by about 6:30 p.m.

The total number of apartments and residents affected by the fire are still being determined.
