Police have arrested a man in connection to the death of a woman whose body was found in an apartment on Evanson Street.

On June 30, in the early evening police were called to an apartment in the 200 block of Evanson Street regarding the discovery of a body in one of the suites.

The death was considered suspicious at the time and the investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit has resulted in the death now being a confirmed homicide.

Investigators say the victim was 45-year-old Lillian Ann Green of Poplar River, Manitoba.

They say she was the victim of a serious physical assault in the early morning hours of June 30.

Thirty-year-old Athan Kaz Courchaine of Winnipeg was arrested on July 2, 2009 in connection with the homicide and charged with second degree murder.

Courchaine has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre awaiting his first court appearance.

Past Trouble

Officers say there has been some trouble in the building in the last few years.

In May of 2008 police uncovered a meth lab there.

In 2007 police shot and killed a man after he attacked a resident with a knife.
