If you have been thinking of adopting a cat the time to get off the fence would be now.
There are so many cats at The Winnipeg Humane Society that they have run out of available adoption space.
In its short history since opening the shelter at 45 Hurst Way, The WHS has experienced an increase in the number of incoming cats, and a decrease in the number of cats being adopted.
Presently, there are 490 cats in WHS care, while the number of incoming cats year to date has increased by nearly 200 over the previous year.
"The numbers are worrisome," Director of Communications Aileen White said.
"We have had fewer cats adopted these past few weeks than normal, yet the numbers coming in are still climbing," White said.
Since June, The WHS has been receiving an average of 19 cats each day and they predict that number to increase as summer continues.
On July 2, 2009 of the 46 animals brought to The WHS, 34 were cats.
In addition, the closing of three satellite locations has further impacted The WHS.
Since April, over 50 fewer adoptions have taken place from offsite locations.
In an attempt to open up space, and to refrain from euthanizing healthy adoptable cats in The WHS's care cats will be selling for only $25 from July 9 to July 12.
The low price includes feline leukemia/FIV testing, spay and neuter surgery, microchip, tattoo, first vaccination, de-worming and 6-weeks of Pet Secure Insurance, and two-week health check.
In addition to the need for good homes for the cats The WHS is in urgent need of wet cat food and monetary donations are always appreciated.

Saturday 10 a.m. - 6p.m.
Sunday 12 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
