A drunk driver who killed a woman last December has been sentenced to six years in prison. Hugo Ruizfuentes pleaded guilty last month to impaired driving causing death. At court today, the judge sentenced Ruizfuentes to six years in prison, giving a sentence which exceeded what the Crown requested.

Ruizfuentes' truck ran a red light and hit a vehicle driven by Elaine Stoller, 63, at the corner of Grant Avenue and Waverley Street last December.

Stoller, a grandmother, was apparently only one kilometer away from her home.

Ruizfuentes, a former exotic dancer turned carpenter, had a blood alcohol level of .12.

The Crown had asked for five years, while the defence requested time served.

With the time credit given for his past time in custody, there is another four-and-a-half years left in his sentence.
