A 16-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder, after another teen was stabbed to death.

The 15-year-old victim died Sunday after being stabbed in West St. Paul, said RCMP.

Officers said the autopsy conducted on Monday showed the teen died from a single stab wound to the chest.

Friends of the two boys said the suspect and victim were hanging out when they started arguing and one of the boys was later stabbed.

RCMP have been investigating at the home where the stabbing happened and spent time in a garage where a bloody shovel and blood-smeared handprint were visible.

After the stabbing, witnesses say one teen went for help at a nurse's nearby home. The woman performed CPR on the victim, but tells CTV News he was gone almost instantly and didn't suffer long.

The victim was a Grade 10 student at West Kildonan Collegiate. Friends said the boy used to make everyone laugh and always had a grin on his face.

His death has devastated classmates.

"We all feel dead inside, like we've lost something important to us," said Kristen Ross, a friend of the victim's.

The 16-year-old suspect remains in custody.

Police continue to investigate.
