NDP Leadership hopeful Steve Ashton is crying foul after a weekend meeting in delegate-rich Maples.

More than 1000 people turned out on Saturday to vote for delegates to represent the area during the NDP leadership convention being held in just over two weeks.

Although Ashton won 135 of the 138 delegate spots his camp says nine delegates were not allowed to return to the hall to vote after leaving for a cigarette break.

The NDP Party President says once voting starts no on is allowed back into the building even if they've already registered to vote.

Ashton's camp says their also investigating irregularities during delegate voting in the Inkster area.

The NDP Leadership convention will take place in Winnipeg on October 17.
