More than 100 people gathered on a Brandon baseball diamond to pay tribute to Ashley Neufeld on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old woman and two teammates were found dead in a vehicle at the bottom of a pond on Nov. 3 near Dickinson, N.D. Neufeld had been attending university there. Investigators are still working to determine what happened.
Former teammates in Brandon described Neufeld as a shining star on the baseball field.
"One thing I'll remember about her is her running the bases. I don't think I've seen anyone running the bases that fast in my life," said Lauren Ridd.
Jim Nay coached Neufeld for six years and says the sport was in her blood, with both her mother and grandmother having played the game.
Neufeld was also studying psychology at university and spent summers working with kids with special needs.
Funeral arrangements are still being worked out, but a former coach of Neufeld's says he doesn't think there's a church big enough in Brandon to fit all the people she touched during her life.
