Two 14-year-old girls were arrested after posting alleged threats online about killing students at Ecole Selkirk Junior High, say RCMP.

On Dec. 31, the teen suspects allegedly posted messages on Facebook and MSN threatening to kill at least five other students and wrote about bringing guns and a bomb to the school, say RCMP.

Police say they initially received a report of a text message distributed that contained threats and later officers discovered the online postings.

It's believed the suspects had a hit list.

Other teenagers saw the online postings and told their parents.

"I've very proud of the students and their parents...that they did come forward as soon as they were aware of this," says Gail Bagnall, superintendent of the Lord Selkirk School Division.

The two 14-year-old suspects were charged with uttering threats, say police. Both girls have been suspended indefinitely and are now banned from coming anywhere near the school grounds.

The online threats come less than three weeks after another student from the same school was stabbed on the playground after school hours. The victim is recovering, while a 16-year-old suspect has been charged.

Some students tell CTV News they're concerned by the recent online threats.

RCMP say they're seeing more cases of online intimidation by teenagers.

Bagnall says many students don't realize the potential impact of online threats.

"They say things electronically that they would never say face to face. They don't see there will be repercussions," says Bagnall.

Both of the 14-year-old suspects remain in custody, say police.
