A married couple who were killed on a highway Saturday leave behind 11 children.

The victims, 38-year-old David Dik and his 35-year-old wife Elizabeth, were killed when their Honda Civic collided with another vehicle on an icy patch of road on highway 52, one kilometre east of Steinbach.

Police say the couple were not wearing seatbelts.

Poor driving conditions are considered a factor in the collision, say officers.

Relatives tell CTV News the family is devastated.

The children's uncle is taking care of them in the meantime.

Two people in the other car were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

The forensic collision reconstruction team is investigating.

RCMP closed highway 52 between Steinbach and La Broquerie for some time. It has since been reopened.

A trust fund has been set up for the children. Anyone wanting to help can drop off cash or a cheque for the “Dik Children Donation Fund” at the Steinbach Credit Union, at either the Steinbach location or in Winnipeg at the Kenaston and McGillivray branch.
