Numerous Manitobans are busy trying to take advantage of the home renovation tax credit this weekend. The deadline for costs that qualify for the program arrives Sunday night.

"A lot of people are trying to get that last bit of savings in the last bit of rush on the (home renovation tax) credit," says Vance Slobidian at Rona.

Tina Onsowich at Dynasty Bathrooms has seen business double since the credit was introduced and says the past few days have been very busy.

"Actually, the entire week has been crazy," says Onsowich.

She hopes the credit returns for tax time next year.

"(It's) great for clients (and) great for businesses out there," says Onsowich.

Along with stocking up on supplies before the deadline, some Manitobans were aiming to meet the tax credit's requirement that any work done by a contractor be completed before Feb. 1.

Homeowner Daryl Pack says he will be making the most out of the tax credit after spending about $10,000 on repair work.

"We had to tear down our basement walls but it's all done now and we're ready to claim the maximum amount," says Pack.

While some are calling for the tax credit program to return, there's been no word from the federal government about re-introducing it.

Officials say the goal of the program was to stimulate the economy.

The home renovation tax credit is expected to cost the federal government $2 billion.
