A 27-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving causing death after a passenger in the man's vehicle died more than two weeks after a crash, said RCMP.

Around 11:50 p.m. on Feb. 13, RCMP were called about a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 59 near the entrance to Bird's Hill Provincial Park.

Three people were in an older model BMW when it rolled and a 21-year-old male passenger was ejected from the vehicle, said RCMP. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle was charged last month for impaired driving causing bodily harm and refusing a breath sample.

On March 1, RCMP learned the 21-year-old passenger had died from injuries from the collision. The next day, RCMP upgraded the charges against the driver of the vehicle.

Michael Abe Teichroeb, 27, from Winnipeg now faces charges for impaired driving causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

He is scheduled to make an appearance in court in Selkirk on March 26.
