Police are investigating after four people were stabbed during a brawl near the corner of Ellice Avenue and Kennedy Street Monday night.

The four victims, all between 21 and 22-years-old, are listed in stable condition. Officers were called to the incident around 11 p.m. Monday night.

The fight, which apparently involved about 20 people, started near the Lo Pub on Kennedy Street.

Lo Pub manager Jack Jonasson says one man inside the club became agitated and then about 20 people spilled out onto the street.

"It was just a bunch of rolling on the ground, punching and kicking," says Jonasson.

He took over the bar about two and a half years ago and says staff members have worked hard to make the place safe.

"We established a community. Unfortunately, the groups that were here were people who weren't part of the community," says Jonasson. "We've never had these kinds of incidents in the bar and we don't ever want this to happen again.

The four men stabbed are believed to be from out of town.

The Lo Pub is attached to Hostelling International, which attracts travelers from around the world.

Richard Magleo, general manager, is confident the brawl won't give the hostel a bad reputation and says the incident is the first of its kind during the past three years the hostel has been in operation.

Just before the fight broke out, Vancouver's Boombox Saints were preparing to take to the stage. The group released a statement, saying they believe the incident was not connected to their fans, but related to patrons at the club from earlier in the night.

"Our deepest condolences go out to all that were involved in this incident and our warmest thoughts and prayers go out to those who were injured," read the group's statement.

The Lo Pub, meanwhile, has decided to stop running its hip hop night, which normally operates on Monday evenings.

The club also is looking into extra security, including possibly cameras and more staff.

The Lo Pub also plans to host a meeting to discuss with the public ways to make downtown more safe.

The meeting takes place at the Lo Pub's location at 330 Kennedy Street at 4:30 p.m. on Apr. 1.

Police continue to investigate the stabbings on Monday night and have not yet made any arrests in the case.
