Officers responded to a stabbing around 12:30 a.m. Thursday that sent a victim to hospital in unstable condition, said police.

An investigation determined a 54-year-old man was walking near Ross Avenue and Ellen Street when he saw a male and female arguing.

The male suspect allegedly stabbed the 54-year-old victim in the upper and lower body without provocation, said police.

Both the male and female fled the area.

The victim then went to an Elgin Avenue residence and called emergency services. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable, said police.

The suspect is described as male, aboriginal in appearance, five feet 10 inches (177 centimetres) tall, with a thin moustache, acne, husky build and weighing approximately 220 pounds (99 kilograms). He was seen wearing a black shirt with white writing and a light beige baseball cap with a flat brim.
