The Forks in Winnipeg is undergoing a makeover which is expected to last around ten years.

The Forks North Portage and their site partners outlined their plans for the future of the area at a Public Open House on Saturday.

Some of the projects include an Adventure Park for kids, renovations to the Manitoba Children Museum and the Upper Fort Garry Heritage Park and Interpretive Centre as well as the anticipated completion of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

There are also plans to build 350 condominium and apartment suites.

"It's something we've been thinking about and talking about for some time," said Jim August, CEO of the Forks North Partnership.

"Across from the Museum for Human Rights which is now a surface level parking lot, we're looking at a parking development taking place there for about 600 to 700 cars and then integrated into that is a residential project."

August also says the mixed use space will include a promenade walkway as well as coffee shops and maybe a daycare centre.

Other projects include a new vision for the waterfront as well as the railside lot.

Most of the projects have finish dates spanning the next ten years.

The Human Rights Museum is scheduled to open up in 2012.

A preview of the project will be available at The Forks Market on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
