A father of two has died after being stabbed in a Shaughnessy Heights home overnight.

Family members say the victim is 34-year old Ricky Lathlin.

"I don't know why anyone would want to hurt him," said his sister Ashley Lathlin.

"I think he just got caught in the wrong situation, the wrong place at the wrong time."

Officers were called to an apartment complex in the first 100 block of Gilbert Avenue around 5 a.m. after reports of a fight involving several people.

Police found a man suffering from serious stab wounds to his upper and lower body.

Lathlin was rushed to hospital in critical condition with severe injuries to his thigh causing heavy bleeding. Lathlin died in hospital Sunday morning.

It is believed the victim was at the Gilbert Park suite earlier in the evening and left.

He came back later running as if he was being chased.

A group of suspects allegedly forced their way into the home and attacked him.

There were at least eight people in the home at the time of the attack including a 9-year old girl.

No arrests have been made.

The homicide unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 986-6508, or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
