Police have charged a 17-year-old suspect with second-degree murder in connection with the brutal stabbing death of a father of three.

Police were called to Pritchard Avenue and Powers Street around 4 a.m. on Saturday after reports of an injured man.

Emergency crews found the victim, Ronnie Kakegamick, 23, lying on a curb bleeding heavily.

"They were pumping his chest, he wasn't breathing at all," said witness Robert Thacker.

Paramedics tried to use CPR to revive the victim but he died after being rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Family members say the mother of the victim sent him to a house on Flora Avenue to look for his younger brother who had threatened to kill himself.

Kakegamick was allegedly attacked outside of the home.

"He just came out of no where and started fighting with him," said the victim's aunt Pauline Meekis who was there.

Meekis said she and other family members returned inside of the house and didn't see what happened next.

It is believed the victim, who was bleeding badly after being stabbed three times, managed to get on a bike and pedal away.

The injured victim got as far as Pritchard Avenue before he collapsed.

Witnesses say a large group of people were gathered around the man when police and paramedics arrived.

Several people were taken into custody.

A large portion of the North End was blocked off with police tape all day Saturday while the Major Crimes Unit investigated.
