Altona RCMP are investigating after three dogs were found injured in March in the RM of Rhineland. One of the animals had to be euthanized.

On March 5, officers were called to a veterinary clinic about two dogs that had been brought in recently with serious injuries.

A vet was able to save one of Val Siemens' two dogs. Both had escaped from her yard.

Siemen's 10-month-old puppy Rocky was found with severe cuts but a vet managed to save the animal.

"It almost looked like someone had tried to cut his leg off," said Siemens.

Vet staff members were unable to save her four-year-old female Rottweiler found with a dinner-plate size burn on her back.

It's unknown how the dogs got out of the yard. Siemens said she believes someone deliberately injured the animals and worries some of her other dogs will be targeted next.

"This is not an accident. This is not a coincidence," said Siemens.

On March 25, RCMP officers were also called about a dog brought into the Pembina Valley Humane Society with bailer twine wrapped around its body with a jug full of rocks attached. The dog had gone missing two days before and its owners were actively looking for it, said RCMP.

Officers said they have not determined how the twine became wrapped around the animal.

RCMP said they're concerned by the incidents and anyone with information is asked to contact Altona RCMP at (204) 324-6970, or their local law enforcement agency.
