Winnipeg police have charged a suspect with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Jordan McIvor, 19.

McIvor and the suspect are thought to have got into an argument in the 1500 block of Notre Dame Avenue on May 11. The fight is believed to have started inside a suite at a Manitoba Housing Complex before spilling out into a back alley.

The suspect then allegedly stabbed the victim in the upper body, said police.

Officers were called around 2:30 a.m. regarding the incident. McIvor was located at the scene and was taken to hospital where he died from injuries.

It's believed Jordan was stabbed right beside his heart. Witnesses told CTV News on Tuesday that the victim was also beaten, possibly with two-by-four boards full of nails.

Joedy Joseph Lavallee, 27, of no fixed address has been charged with second-degree murder, assault with a weapon and breach of probation, said police.
