A 49-year-old man was assaulted outside of a Thompson hotel in the afternoon of May 20 and later died.
RCMP officers said the man was taken to Thompson General Hospital and then flown to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, where he died from his injuries.
Police have arrested a 22-year-old suspect in the murder.
The victim and the suspect did not know each other, officers said.
Donald Timothy Massan of Thompson was charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in Thompson Provincial Court on Tuesday.
An autopsy will be conducted at the Health Sciences Centre.
Police continue to investigate, but do not anticipate laying any further charges, officers said.
