A number of streets near the McPhillips Street Station Casino were closed down on Monday due to a gas leak.

Hydro officials said the leak occurred when construction crews in the area hit a gas line around 2:45 p.m.

The casino and a nearby strip mall were evacuated.

Police said crews have been able to clamp the damaged gas lines, but the streets in the area would remain closed until midnight as a precaution.

McPhillips Street was closed between Logan Avenue and Selkirk Avenue, westbound Jarvis Avenue was closed from Sinclair Avenue, and Logan Avenue was closed between McPhillips Street and Weston Street.

On Tuesday morning, police said all roadways had been re-opened.
