A suspect is in custody after a stolen vehicle smashed into two police cars on Sunday.

Around 11:50 p.m., officers near Main Street and College Avenue were carrying out traffic stops when they spotted a suspected stolen vehicle.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle near Beatrice Street and Hespler Avenue, but the vehicle rammed a cruiser car and fled the scene, said police.

Officers chased after the vehicle for about 15 kilometres and the pursuit ended in the area of Henderson Highway and Springfield Road, where the stolen vehicle hit another cruiser car.

The suspect fled from the stolen vehicle on foot but was arrested after officers used an electronic control device to stop him, said police.

Shawn Cary Ward, 39, faces a number of charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation.
