Officials with Manitoba Conservation are advising anyone traveling outdoors in Northern Manitoba to take extra precautions because of the potential for forest fires due to ongoing hot, dry weather.
Southern Manitoba continues to be wet with no significant fire concerns, officials said.
There were 19 new fires on Thursday, 18 of which were caused by lightning and one that was the result of a tree falling on a power line, officials said. Only one fire, about 12 km northeast of Gillam, was of any concern as of Friday afternoon.
About 30 firefighters, with two helicopters, were fighting the fires.
