The Winnipeg Humane Society said that 34 dogs seized from a property in Gull Lake were too sick to save and had to be euthanized.

In mid July, the province seized 64 dogs from the property. The Winnipeg Humane Society said the animals were housed in unsanitary and unsafe conditions. Many of the animals were found suffering from gastro-intestinal problems.

The property's owner said the dogs had been dumped on his property and he was just trying to give them a home.

The remaining 30 dogs will eventually be put up for adoption. It will take about six weeks to nurse the animals back to health, said humane society officials.

The province's chief veterinarian office is investigating to see whether there was criminal intent.
