Winnipeg police have arrested a 23-year-old suspect in the city's most recent stabbing death.

A man was found stabbed in the back lane of 500 Pritchard Avenue, just before 2 a.m. on Friday.

Police say the victim, 24-year-old Derek Spence, was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.

Friends say Spence was killed outside his girlfriend's home and he was not involved in gangs or violence.

Officers said their investigation found that Spence got into an argument a male acquaintance and then was robbed and physically assaulted. A short time later there was a second confrontation between the two. Police allege that a third male then intervened and stabbed Spence to the upper body.

Leonard Leslie Murdock, 23, was taken into police custody and charged with manslaughter.
