The death of a 22-year-old woman who plummeted from a balcony near the top of a high-rise building is being investigated by the homicide unit, said police.
Officers were called about an injured female in the 500 block of St. Mary Avenue in downtown Winnipeg around 3:20 a.m. on Aug. 29.
The woman is believed to have died after falling from an upper-level balcony on the 18 storey building, but the exact manner of her death remains under investigation, said police.
Officers identified the victim as Kylie Fay Dawn Armishaw, 22, of Winnipeg.
Those who knew her said Armishaw was friendly, quiet and kind. The 22-year-old worked as an admitting clerk at the Victoria General Hospital.
Friends of the woman told CTV News she lived in the south Osborne area with her brother.
Sources said she may have been at the downtown building for a party.
Witnesses said people rushed to help the woman on Sunday morning after she plunged to the ground, but it was too late.
Kris Robson heard a loud bang outside his apartment on Sunday and said it sounded like a car crash or gunshot. When he looked over his balcony, he saw the woman lying on the ground and he immediately called 911. Emergency crews responded.
"They were here pretty quick and they started to work on her. I didn't think she'd make it because it…looked pretty bad," said Robson.
Another woman in the building said she heard what sounded like men fighting over a girl and she wonders if that argument was connected to the incident.
CTV News has been told there may have been a party going on in an 18th floor apartment in the building and drugs may have been present.
Officers continue to investigate and so far no arrests have been made. Police have yet to determine whether or not foul play was involved in the death.
