Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce lent his name and star power to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation to endorse Provincial Hunting Day on Saturday.

In 2009, the province proclaimed the fourth Saturday in September Hunting Day to celebrate the role hunting plays in wildlife management and conservation, government officials said.

A Hunting Day celebration began at the Old Hammock March Interpretive centre at 10 a.m. Pierce is scheduled to sign autographs and there will be entertainment including an archery and air rifle range, a photo exhibit, a dog show, traditional Métis music.

The Provincial Hunting Day celebration is organized by the Manitoba Wildlife Federation and their partners; Manitoba Conservation, Ducks Unlimited, the Manitoba Lodge and Outfitters Association, the Delta Waterfowl Foundation, and the Manitoba Métis Federation.
