The city is set to allow two-way traffic on a section of Assiniboine Avenue that is the subject of a lawsuit.

Councillor Jenny Gerbasi confirmed that Assiniboine Avenue will be open to two-way traffic from Main Street to Hargrave Street.

The decision was made after it was found that garbage trucks would not be able to access a new development along the street, Gerbasi said.

As part of the Active Transportation Plan, the city planned to build a bike path and change part of Assiniboine Avenue to be one-way.

Those changes prompted six businesses in the area to sue the city.

Doug Mackenzie, one of the plaintiffs, said that while he sees the decision to extend two-way traffic to Hargrave Street as an improvement, the group plans to go ahead with the lawsuit.
