Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced on Sunday that byelections will be held in the Manitoba ridings of Dauphin - Swan River - Marquette and Winnipeg North on Nov. 29, 2010.
The seats were left empty when the Members of Parliament resigned to enter the mayoral elections in Dauphin and Winnipeg.
Winnipeg North was held by New Democrat Judy Wasylycia-Leis, who is challenging Sam Katz in the Winnipeg mayoral election, set for Oct. 27. Aboriginal community leader Kevin Chief is the NDP-nominated candidate vying to replace her. Liberal MLA Kevin Lamoureux, a former member of the Canadian Forces, will be running for the federal Liberals. Julie Javier, Senior Critical Care Monitoring Specialist, is the Conservative Candidate.
Robert Sopuck will be running for the Conservatives in Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette. He was a hunting and outdoors columnist for the Winnipeg Free Press until the byelection was called.
The riding was held by Tory Inky Mark, who is now campaigning in Dauphin's municipal election. That election is also set for Oct. 27.
Candidate for the Pirate Party of Canada Jeff Coleman has also declared his intention to runs in the Winnipeg North byelection.
He said that would make him the first official Pirate Party candidate running for office outside of the European Union.
A byelection in Vaughn, Ontario will also be held on November 29.
