A religious relic on loan from Ukraine for a cross-Canada tour was in Winnipeg this weekend, after it was stolen, but quickly recovered, in Edmonton.
The relic is a skull fragment believed to have been from Vladimir the Great, a 10th century Ukrainian saint.
It went missing last weekend when a thief broke into a home in Edmonton. The relic, which is encased in an ornate box, was stolen along with a car parked at the home.
Police officers tracked the car through its GPS system. When they found it abandoned, the relic was still inside.
The relic is making its way to churches across Canada at the request of Archbishop Seraphim, who initiated the tour with a letter to the church in Ukraine.
Now, Archbishop Seraphim is embroiled in the Orthodox Church of America's first sex abuse scandal.
The Orthodox Church in America has released statements about the Winnipeg Police Service investigation into sexual misconduct of Archbishop Seraphim, stating that it is about allegations of sexual misconduct committed 30 years ago.
CTV News has learned the allegation involves two ten-year-old boys.
