Some very important work was done at the legislature on Monday.

It was a the beginning of the 89th Winter Session of the Youth Parliament of Manitoba and parliamentarians-in-training debated issues including voter apathy and the use of natural resources.

Some of the young leaders got a chance to meet former Premier Gary Doer, who was at the legislature to get his official portrait taken.

"[Youth parliament] engages a lot of young people in debate. It is also a place where future leaders come from. Some of the resolutions are provocative, and not workable and some of the resolutions are sensible and have a lot of merit of legislators in the main legislature," said Doer.
