A drunk driver dragged a police officer ten metres before crashing his vehicle into a snowbank on New Year's Day, police said.

At about 4 p.m., officers pulled over a vehicle that was seen driving in an erratic manner in the area of Keewatin Street and Alexander Avenue.

While speaking to police, the driver placed the vehicle in drive, officers said. Then, an officer reached inside of the vehicle and grabbed the driver, who accelerated forward dragging the officer approximately 10 meters before getting the vehicle stuck in a snow bank.

The suspect was arrested and the officer did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident.

A 31-year-old Winnipeg man is charged with assaulting a police officer, driving impaired, refusing to give a breath sample, driving while disqualified and public mischief.
