A man was stabbed by a suspect who was walking with his children when a dispute erupted on the corner of Henderson Highway and Sutton Avenue, police said.

On Sunday at about 4:20 p.m., officers were called to the intersection with a report of a stabbing. Their investigation found that a suspect, who was with his three children, was attempting to cross Sutton Avenue on foot. At the same time, the victim was attempting to drive onto Sutton Avenue from Henderson Highway.

At that point, the suspect began yelling at the victim. A dispute escalated until the victim was assaulted and stabbed in the upper body, police say. The victim's injuries were not life threatening.

The suspect left the area and the victim contacted police, officers said.

Officers at the scene located the suspect in the area a short time later, police said.

A 31-year-old male suspect is facing charged including aggravated assault, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation.

He was released on a promise to appear in court.
