Manitoba Hydro officials say the cold weather is to blame for power problems in the Lac du Bonnet area on Saturday.

The cold temperature led to an increase in demand for power to heat buildings and homes in the area, which resulted in a line overheating.

As they fix the problem, crews are turning power on and off intermittently to allow people to keep their heat on, at least some of the time.

Hydro began receiving calls about the Lac du Bonnet problem at 6:30 a.m. and the problem was fixed before 1 p.m.

A few other Manitoba Hydro customers were also having power problems Saturday, including about 20 customers on Larchdale Crescent near Henderson Highway in Winnipeg.

Power will be returned gradually to about 20 homes in Arnes throughout the day, Hydro officials said on Saturday afternoon.
