An intoxicated teenaged suspect forced a woman from her car and drove off in it, leading Winnipeg police and RCMP officers on a chase, police said.

At about 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, an intoxicated suspect confronted a 61-year-old woman as she was stopped in her car at a red light at Fermor Avenue and Pebble Beach Road.

The suspect opened the car door and demanded that the woman leave the car, police said. The woman complied, taking her two dogs with her.

Then, the suspect drove away, heading north on Archibald Street, police said.

At about 12:30 a.m. the suspect crashed the vehicle into another car in the area of Pandora Avenue and Hoka Street, officers said. No one was injured in the crash and the suspect fled in the stolen vehicle.

A pursuit followed, involving both RCMP officers and Winnipeg police. It ended when officers deployed a spike belt, police said.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot in the area of Lomond Boulevard.

Police arrested a 17-year-old male suspect who is charged with numerous offences including robbery, flight from police, impaired driving and driving without a licence.
