Police have a 27-year-old male suspect in custody after two people were shot and killed in the Centennial neighbourhood early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Elgin Avenue at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday after reports of shots fired in the area.

They found Darren Joey Swampy, 19, and Lee Brady Spence, 22, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were rushed to hospital in critical condition, but later died.

Police say it appears that the victims were among a group of people who were evicted from a house party in the 300 block of Ross Avenue. A short time later, the victims met up with a man who had also been evicted from the party. Then, the suspect fired shots.

Police are conducting interviews and are asking anyone with information regarding the incident who has not yet spoken to investigators to contact police at 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
