Winnipeg police have laid charges against a judge.
Officers said they were called to a residence in River Heights on Feb. 20.
According to sources, an 89-year-old woman was threatened and attacked.
On Feb. 24, Judge Brian Corrin, 65, was charged with assault and uttering threats.
Corrin is also a former MLA.
The alleged victim is Corrin's mother.
Officers found a note on the fridge, allegedly written by the woman, saying she was beaten. On the other side of the note, it included an accusation.
CTV News can't go into details about the accusation, but has been told officers are investigating it.
When Corrin's mother spoke to CTV News, she was crying and said she's concerned.
The case is considered a domestic dispute.
It's rare for police to release details in such cases, but Corrin's name has been made public because of his position.
"When any public figure, whether it be a police officer or any other public figure…(has) been arrested or charged, we want to be as transparent as possible," said Const. Jason Michalyshen, a spokesperson for Winnipeg police.
Judge Corrin has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the charges, said Chief Judge Ken Champagne.
Corrin was released from police custody, on a promise to appear in court.
The charges against Corrin are only allegations at this time and nothing has been proven in court.
