Police said the body of an elderly homeowner was discovered at the scene of an Elmwood break-in early Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Locksley Bay around 2 a.m. Thursday after area residents noticed three people drive off in their neighbour's vehicle.

The vehicle was later found abandoned. Items had also been stolen from the house.

Police said jewelry was found in the vehicle.

Three youth suspects were located in the 600 block of Harbinson Avenue East and taken into custody. Two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy face charges related to the break-in.

Officers said they don't suspect foul play in connection with the body found.

Investigators are trying to determine what happened and if the suspects just happened to break into a house where the occupant had passed away.

"That is a possibility -- that they had intended to break into a home and came across a deceased individual," said Const. Jason Michalyshen a spokesperson for Winnipeg police.

Neighbours identified the man as 78-year-old Joe Boros.

Neighbours said Boros lived alone in the home after his wife passed away last year. They had no children.

It's not yet known when the man died.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine cause of death.
