The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit is warning the public after the release of a convicted sex offender in Manitoba.

Thirty-six-year old Fabian Claybren Maytwayashing is considered a high risk to reoffend. He was scheduled to be released from the Headingley Correctional Institution on Monday and is expected to live in Winnipeg.

Police say Maytwayashing often uses the internet to contact potential victims and is known to use aliases. He has been convicted of numerous offences including sexual assault with a weapon stemming from Winnipeg on November 12, 2000.

Police say a 14-year-old girl was grabbed by Maytwayashing as she was walking home. He dragged her into a yard, held a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her.

On March 30, 2001 he was sentenced to five years and was not granted any form of parole.

Police warn Maytwayashing is still considered a high risk to reoffend sexually and females of all ages are at risk of sexual violence. They are asking the community to take proper precautions to protect themselves.
