About 150 demonstrators marched through downtown Winnipeg on Tuesday, calling on the federal government to commit more money to low-cost housing.
"Social housing is a right for which we're going to fight," shouted demonstrators as they walked.
The march was part of the Red Tent Day of Action, a national initiative held across Canada to raise social housing issues during the election campaign.
"Prisons are a very poor form of social housing," said John Hutton of the John Howard Society of Manitoba. "We've heard an awful lot in the campaign about a crime strategy but what we haven't heard about is a housing strategy."
The Right To Housing Coalition recommends the federal government commit $2 billion annually for a national housing strategy.
Red Tent demonstrations took place in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Rimouski and Montreal.
