Winnipeg police are asking for help in finding a suspect wanted for a series of thefts from mailboxes.

Police said there were more than 40 incidents of mailbox thefts at apartment blocks around the city, including in the downtown, Osborne Village, south Pembina Highway, north Henderson Highway and west Portage Avenue areas in March and April. A variety of mail items were stolen, said officers.

It appears the suspect targeted large apartment complexes with separate mailrooms.

The suspect is described as a male, in his mid thirties to early forties, medium build, about five feet eight inches to five feet 10 inches in height (172 – 182 centimetres), clean shaven, with long hair in a ponytail with the sides of his hair shaved. The suspect appears to have a receding hair line and a vertical crease on his forehead between his eyes.

Officers are asking people to pay close attention to any unusual activity on their bank accounts and to whether they have not received mail they were expecting to arrive. The public is also asked to report any suspicious activities around mail rooms to police.

Officers additional released images of the suspect captured by surveillance video.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact police at 986-6668, or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
